Founder's Desk: Is Europe Next?

One of the most common questions we receive from brand owners is:

"When is Moventory expanding to Europe?"

Over the last week, I spent time across Europe meeting with fulfillment operators, warehouse teams, and logistics partners to better understand what it would realistically take to establish fulfillment capabilities in the region and support African brands looking to expand internationally.

The answer to the question is simple: We're actively evaluating it.

What became increasingly clear during this trip is that Europe is not a single market from a logistics perspective. The UK and the European Union operate differently, with distinct regulatory, shipping, and operational considerations.

For a company like Moventory, our question is:

At what point does customer demand justify building the infrastructure required to serve these markets efficiently?

Because infrastructure should be built in response to sustained demand not in anticipation of demand that may never materialize. Logistics can be built. Warehouses can be secured. Partnerships can be established. But none of that matters if the demand isn't there.

What gave me confidence was spending time not only with operators, but with consumers themselves. I attended two separate fashion pop-up events featuring a mix of brands, from bespoke designers to fast-fashion retailers. Both events were packed, and at one, I spent more than 30 minutes waiting in line just to get inside.

While speaking with shoppers, a common theme emerged. Many expressed frustration with the lack of variety available through mainstream retail channels. Several mentioned that they often have to wait until December trips home or seasonal pop-up events to access the brands they genuinely want to buy. They were looking for uniqueness. Brands with identity. Products with personality. Fashion that felt different from what they saw every day.

These conversations weren't formal market research, but they did provide direct evidence of something worth paying attention to: consumers actively seeking access to brands they cannot easily buy today.

At the same time, it's important not to overstate what that means. Outside of the UK, Nigerian brands still have relatively limited mainstream cultural penetration across much of Europe. The opportunity is there, but broad consumer awareness is still developing.

As we continue our evaluation of the European market, we'd like to hear directly from brands that are either actively selling into the UK and EU or considering expansion into those markets.

In particular, we're interested in understanding historical demand. If your brand has fulfilled orders directly to customers in the UK or EU from your existing warehouse, or if you've participated in pop-up events serving these markets, we'd love to learn more about your experience. Data from the last two years would be especially valuable, including sales volumes, order trends, customer demand patterns, or any other insights that can help us better understand the opportunity. Where possible, actual records and data are preferred. However, directional estimates are also welcome and appreciated.

If this is something your brand has experience with, we'd encourage you to get in touch. Your insights will help shape our understanding of the market and inform how we think about supporting African brands in Europe moving forward.

Thank you, Foyin Ologs Moventory, Chief of Movement
